The Art Center introduces itself to its audience in 2025 by applying new formulas and ways of presenting current music, with nine dates, from late January to mid-May. The new year opens with a double anniversary: on the one hand, the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Art Center, which began as a student association of the University of Padua in 1945; and on the other, the 80th birthday of Akira Sakata, an iconic figure of international free jazz and one of the most innovative artists to emerge from the Japanese scene in the 1970s. Along with Sakata, Jim O’ Rourke also returns to Padua for a series of exclusive appearances for Europe.
The opening night, scheduled for Jan. 31 at Palazzo Liviano’s Sala dei Giganti, will consist of two separate sets. The first part will open with an intimate and reflective exploration of Akira Sakata‘s duo with Giovanni Di Domenico. Next, Sakata will take the stage with an ensemble created especially for this occasion, consisting of Piero Bittolo Bon (saxophones and clarinets), Giorgio Pacorig (piano), Stefano Dallaporta (double bass) and Andrea Grillini (drums).
The multiplicity of offerings is possible thanks to the association’s organic relationship with the University of Padua and the fundamental support of the Ministry of Culture. Finally, the media partnership with Rai Radio 3, which regularly broadcasts recordings of the concerts throughout the year, is also renewed for 2025.
All concerts start at 9 p.m. The cost of tickets varies depending on the event; reductions are available for students of the University of Padua. Tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster (+ presale fees).
