Health and precision medicine
The idea that inspired the event is the creation of a permanent International Forum of Health Sciences in Padua. Health is understood in the broadest sense and therefore includes all activities aimed at ensuring a state of well-being for the population on a global scale (“well-being” is to be understood as defined by the WHO); this includes environmental protection, the study of both human and animal diseases in a “One Health” perspective, as well as prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Padua is the ideal location for the WHF because the University of Padua was among the first universities to inaugurate the era of Medicine as a science, remaining its cradle for centuries. During the first day of the second edition of the WHF, the role of environmental, physical and nutritional determinants of health in the scientific framework and their influence on prevention and treatment in hospitals and health services of the Veneto Region will be discussed. The study of the pathogenesis of infectious, chronic-degenerative, genetic-hereditary and oncological diseases that have the greatest impact on human health will be addressed during the second and third days of the conference; new therapeutic targets and innovative preventive and treatment measures will be analyzed.
International and Italian scientists involved in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) project, for which the University of Padua is a national reference center, will present the most advanced therapeutic approaches based on the use of RNA, new gene therapy systems, correction of genetic defects and treatment of tumors with oncolytic viruses. These topics will be addressed from the point of view of economic, industrial and entrepreneurial development made possible by advanced technologies for health, drug discovery and production, such as digitalization, AI, quantum computing, synthetic and structural biology, vaccinology and fine chemistry.
The Veneto Region considers this sector one of the most promising for social and economic development in the international context.
