“Poenta e Renga” represents every year the food and wine event of the Padua Ghetto, a continuation of traditions that are part of the Venetian identity.
Born in the post-war period, in a difficult economic moment where some residents and small artisans together created this festival for one day, a moment of aggregation during the difficult reconstruction, everyone contributed to bringing something: polenta, herring and wine.
Among the well-known families and friends we remember Bruno Lazzarin the carpenter, Lazzaretto Giancarlo the blacksmith, Egidio Manfrotto the fabric merchant.
Poenta e Renga celebrates the poor Venetian dish, typical of the peasant of the early twentieth century, a symbol of rural poverty, an unforgettable image also presented in the film “l’arancio degli clog” by Ermanno Olmi with the dinner and the Renga hanging by a thread which has become an umbilical cord with the past, part of our history rich in humanity.
During the festival there will also be the costume of the early twentieth century: the Tabarro. Simple and elegant garment.
The legendary Bianchi and Torpado bicycles will also be part of the event with a vintage exhibition dedicated from 1940 to today, there will be a space in particular for the Bottecchia brand with some souvenir images of the champion Ottavio: from bricklayer to cyclist who won the Tour de France twice.
