Traditional Chinese art installation

China is Near – Galleria Samonà Padova exhibition

From January 23 to February 13, the windows of the Galleria Samonà in via Roma will host the fourth edition of the exhibition “China is Near”, an installation of traditional Chinese art promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Padua, created as part of the Chinese New Year by the Filo di Seta Association.

Visible from the outside of the windows are 31 authorized editions of peasant paintings by Hu Xian, Huyi District, Xi’an City, one of the oldest cradles of Chinese peasant painting. In 1988, the Ministry of Culture designated it as one of the first “Cities of Modern Chinese Folk Painting”. Subsequently, in 2008 and 2014, Huyi was again recognized as a “City of Chinese Folk Art (Peasant Paintings)”.

This folk art form is characterized by themes related to daily life, a strong imprint of the contemporary era, strong regional characteristics, stylized and distorted images, a romantic and naive style, and bright colors with strong contrasts.

The works of Huyi artists are not only a celebration of rural life, but also a means of transmitting and innovating folk art.
