On Sunday, April 27, at 5 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Military at 82 S. Prosdocimo St., Padua, an organ concert, organized by the Friends of Music of Padua with the collaboration of Northern Operations Forces Command. The concert is dedicated to Maurice Ravel, whose 150th birth anniversary occurs this year, and Olivier Messiaen, on the day of his birth April 27. The program opens with Variations on a Recitative Op. 40 by Arnold Schoenberg, his only published organ composition, then moves on to Ravel’s music, with Six Pieces for Organ, and concludes with Messiaen’s L’Ascension.
The concert will be introduced by musicologist Silvia Urbani, who, after graduating in organ at the Conservatorio “Benedetto Marcello” and earning a degree in literature at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, received her PhD from the University of Bologna. She is a library officer at the “Mario Messinis” library of the Venice Conservatory of Music. Organist Pierpaolo Turetta graduated from the Conservatory of Trento and specialized in Geneva. Always ranked in the top positions in national and international competitions, he won first prize at the Concours International Suisse de l’Orgue in Biel in 2002. His repertoire ranges from Bach to Ligeti. Among his most significant performances are those of the complete works of J.S.Bach, R.Schumann, F.Liszt and C.Franck. Free admission.
